While This Blogger’s Away, Fall Books Are In Play

It’s been several weeks since I last blogged…deciding instead to take a break and make good use of every sunshine filled day that passed my way. All good things come to an eventual end. The weather has turned and the fall book season is well underway. Here is a sampling of what is brewing in book world.

Oprah picks ‘The Story of Edgar Sawtelle’ by David Wroblewski as her September book club selection. I don’t often agree, but this one is a gem.

Two big political titles debuted last week, Thomas L Friedman’s ‘Hot, Flat, and Crowded’ (America’s need to be green) and Bob Woodward’s ‘The War Within’ (last volume in his series on the Bush administration). One looks forward while the other looks back. You choose.

Knopf has just published the highly anticipated Swedish mystery novel‘Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ by Stieg Larson. Lot’s of controversy surrounding this one. Read Nora Rollins’ insightful Earlyword post to discover what the fuss is all about.

Book clubs are making their selections for the year which might explain why Elizabeth Gilbert’s ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ and Greg Mortenson’s ‘Three Cups of Tea’ are still selling well according to USA Today. I know my book club has selected ‘Three Cups of Tea’ along with ‘Kabul Beauty School’ by Debrorah Rodriquez as our November tandem selection.

Two books I have been hearing good things about ‘American Wife’ by Curtis Sittenfeld and the by are apparently selling well thanks in good part to good reviews from Maureen Dowd (not your typical book reviewer) and Nancy Pearl .
