Two Whales With The Same Tale

If you’ve never read Moby Dick, you might want to first start with Nathaniel Philbrick‘s true account In the Heart of the Sea:The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex. After all, the sinking of the Essex was the inspiration for Melville’s Moby DickVariety reports that both books are currently in development (Hollywood speak for coming sometime, maybe).

New Regency has set (Edward Zwick) to direct “In the Heart of the Sea,” the fact-based tale of Nantucket whaling ship the Essex, which was stalked and ultimately destroyed by a sperm whale in 1820. Stranded thousands of miles from home, the crew struggled to survive; they were lost at sea for 90 days. Eight were rescued.

Universal is developing a reimagining of the Melville novel.  Hmmmm.

Actually, I’d recommend reading Moby-Dick first, since Philbrick’s gives away the ending! Both are fantastic, though.
