It is not yet officially summer and I am already feeling the need to play catch up with my reading before I can even consider looking at some of what industry insiders are claiming to be this summers best bets.
Come July, Knopf Publishing is releasing the second book in Stieg Larsson’s trilogy, The Girl Who Played with Fire, a book that Book Beast voted as one of this summer’s top reads. Here I am, waiting for Larsson’s first book, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, to come out in paperback (June 23rd).
Another book that has been on my reading list ever since Nancy Pearl highly recommended it in 2007 is Christine Falls by Benjamin Black (aka John Banville). Audio Files has just named The Silver Swan, second in the Quirke series and narrated by Timothy Dalton, as an Audie finalist for the category Best Male Narration. Time for a road trip.
On top of this, I’m currently reading Carlos Ruiz Zafon’s second book The Angel’s Game (out June 16th) knowing only full well that The Shadow of the Wind (the first book in this planned quartet and a USA Today 2009 beach read pick) is sitting unread on my book shelf. Help! Is anyone else out there feeling totally inadequate?
