Tying Up Some Loose (Book)Ends

I’m taking off  to spend some time in central Oregon with the family.  Golf, bike rides, dips in the pool, long walks through the ranch…plus some book reading time in the old hammock are a few of the activities I am looking forward to.   Before I leave, some follow ups to a few of my summer posts:

Take Your Book Club To Guernsey contestStill no word as to which club has won. The  official website states that they are in the process of picking a winner and to please check back.  I will report as soon as they announce. UPDATE 8/28/09: Lisa Conway and The Wesley Chapel G.R.I.T.S. book club from Union County, North Carolina are going to Guernsey.  Congratulations!

If you’re looking for a good summer movie, two recent books to film  Julie & Julia (#3) and The Time Traveler’s Wife (#4) continue to do well at the box office.   I know  both movies were getting good reviews  in the check out line at  my local Trader Joe’s this morning.

For those of you (including this author) who have become fervent Stieg Larsson fans this summer (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire),  the third (and last) in the series The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest will be released by Knopf next spring.  To help you kill the time (ha ha), you can find the Swedish movie version of  Tattoo - Män Som Hatar Kvinnor for rent on Netflix.

And last but not least…books I’m looking forward to when I return: Dan Brown, The Lost Symbol, (Doubleday 9/15 – You know you are curious.);  Margaret Atwood The Year of the Flood, (Doubleday/Nan A.Talese, 9/22);  Audrey Niffenegger, Her Fearful Symmetry (Scribner, 9/29).
