The ostensible story of this book is architecture, but the real topic is the human integrity. This is a very thick book from 1950s: don’t be scared, just read ten pages. It will absorb you and will not release you till the last page. It will shake you fiercely now and then and let you ponder about your life. This the only book I started to read anew immediately after finishing it. Enjoy!
