(No Ratings Yet)A must read for anyone trying to understand, cope with or simply support a loved one dealing with drug addiction. A heartbreaking tale that somehow manages to empower the reader with knowledge and hope. The title comes from a John Lennon song of the same name.
Close your eyes,
Have no fear,
The monsters gone,
He’s on the run and your daddy’s here,
Beautiful,
Beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful Boy,

(1 votes, average: 5.00 out of 5)Third and last in Stieg Larsson’s Millennium series which a relative of mine refers to as the “Blomkvist/Salander crack cocaine of reading”. It does not disappoint. Having already read the first two (which by the way IS mandatory), you will breeze through all 576 pages – and in the end, be wishing for more.

(1 votes, average: 5.00 out of 5)A raw and emotionally intense portrait of a more-than-difficult mother/daughter relationship that descends into murder and the 24 hours that follow. I found this story bleak and depressing. Did manage to finish the book, but it was not an enjoyable read for me.

(1 votes, average: 1.00 out of 5)Author Jean Marie Laskas writes for The Washington Post & Esquire Magazine plus other national publications. This book, originally published in 2000, is her story of growing up as a “city gal”, who always hankered to own a farm and live in the wide open spaces. A humorous, heart-warming but also poignant story about love, friendship, animals and the adjustment from city slicker to life on a farm. Animal lovers will enjoy this book.

(1 votes, average: 5.00 out of 5)This is a fabulous book about a pheasant boy in the most remote part of China, who is chosen by Madam Mao to go to the Academy of Ballet in Beijing. It is a compelling story of his journey, how he achieves such great fame and where the road leads him. I could not put this down.

(1 votes, average: 5.00 out of 5)As a female, now on the other side of menopause, I found this book of tremendous value. Even now, I have things that I look up in her book, though my situation has changed. It is helpful to read other women’s accounts of where they are & get an education as well.

(1 votes, average: 5.00 out of 5)The upstairs downstairs story of a not what she seems concierge and a bright twelve year old that lives in the posh apartment house, who has decided that life is not worth living. A best seller in France, this is full of esoteric little essays on love, beauty and the meaning of life. A great book club selection.

(1 votes, average: 3.00 out of 5)The second in Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy and my favorite (so far). The story picks up with ‘punk hacker savant’ Lisbeth Salander being the prime suspect in the brutal murders of two journalists that were investigating a sex trafficking scandal. Salander, intent on clearing her name, must go underground to elude detection by the police and also the real murderers who set her up.
